If you’re interested in applying to become a UCCS Department of English student, then we offer different degree tracks. To ensure that you can afford your degree, we also offer scholarships to eligible students.

Scholarship Opportunities

Evan J. Scott Endowed English Scholarship
This fund provides scholarship awards to students who are enrolled in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences and who are majoring in English with a focus on literature or secondary education.


Julie Welsh Memorial Scholarship
The Julie Welsh Memorial Scholarship is a need-based award for continuing students at UCCS who have completed at least 12 credits of English and have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA. The award seeks to benefit single parents with a strong scholarly record and a primary focus in English. Students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid before March 1st to be considered for the award.


Patricia Gray Endowment
This scholarship is a need-based award for continuing students at UCCS who have completed at least nine (9) credits of 2000-level or above English and have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA in those courses. Ideal applicants are older than the traditional student returning to college after a change in their life circumstances.


Rubin-Dorsky Essay Prize
This prize is designed to recognize the best student essays in American literature. Each academic year, a maximum of two (2) awards will be given to acknowledge the finest undergraduate student efforts in this wide-ranging and comprehensive field of literary study. The winner will be honored at the UCCS Letters, Arts, and Sciences (LAS) Awards Ceremony in May.
