About the Program
Students who choose to emphasize Secondary Education in the English major will complete in-depth “English Studies” in both literature and rhetoric and writing, preparing students to teach literary, language, and writing studies in secondary classes.
Focus of Study
Students will analyze text and writing and learn to communicate professionally by writing in various genres. They will also learn how to guide secondary students through similar critical thinking and professional communication.
Program Requirements
To earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English, you must fulfill the following requirements:
- Complete at least 42 credit hours of ENGL coursework, depending on your chosen option. Of these, at least 18 hours must be upper division (courses numbered 3000 or higher).
- Obtain a grade of C- or higher in all courses applied to the major.
- Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all ENGL coursework.
- Note that you cannot apply more than 60 credit hours of ENGL coursework toward your bachelor's degree.
- Submit a Senior Assessment during your final semester of the senior year.
- Attend a mandatory English department workshop during your first year at UCCS.
